Had a few things to do today....

Mom and I have been making some weekday drives out to West Marin to do a few things for mom's family....it's a bit of a drive, but I always get to take a walkie upon arrival.... Woah...spotted a big fella up there in that tree!
Youza! Can't tell if he is looking at me, or the canyon below...
We saw fall colors!!!! So pretty.
And, lavenders in the garden. Sideways lavernders...opps.
Ok, so mom did her chores, and goodness! Our car was loaded! I had to sit next to mom. She pretty much buckled me in so I couldn't explore the mess of items in the back.
At least I had a nice view.... This is Nicasio Reservoir, a shallow made reservoir that covers 845 acres, created in 1961.
It's a beautiful site, but the building of this reservoir was surrounded by quite a bit of controversy: Owned by the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD), the creation displaced a number of the area's larger historical family owned farms. The ongoing controversy stems from the fact that the water from the reservoir is rarely used by the MMWD, that the broad and shallow nature of the reservoir leads to quick evaporation, and that the dam has blocked valuable spawning areas for endangered species of salmon and steelhead.
We pass Nicasio Reservoir on our drive to and from our destination. We stopped for a few photos on our way home.
Passing by Big Rock Ranch. And, then on to a more local spot for another little walkie.
We can see lots of birds from the levy we are on. These are the Las Gallinas Wildlife Ponds which are (not as bad as it sounds...) also holding tanks for treated liquid waste.... No, it's not stinky. But, a nice walk for hoomans and doggies..lots of birdies, sometimes otters... Ya, just don't want to go swimming!
I had lots of sounds to identify on this walk....ducks, geese, white pelicans...
They are all over! This is a 3.5 mile trail, but we just did a little today. Well....I was slightly tempted to see if these guys would want to play, but mom said 'no'. Ok mom. Bye bye birdie pals.
See you all again soon!

  5. Hey there, Sierra-Rose
Thanks for sharing all those amazing pictures with us! We were quite fascinated with the reservoir story...if the water is not used, then I agree - what a waste & intrusion on the environment. We have a number of schemes that went up here in the Southern part of Africa that affected (& displaced)millions of people, but at least it is/was somewhat managed and environmental impact studies were done. Nevetheless, it always has a major impact on fauna, flora and species which are environmental specific...ouch!
    On a lighter note....
You are really growing up fast, Sierra! You are so lucky to get such amazing walks. We admire those clear blue skies and of course all the birds.
Take care now- we love you lots and often think about Honey too.
Lots of licks to you and your humans

  7. Hi Sierra Rose, What a lovely drive you had with your mom.
We loved your fall colours - it really is our favourite time of year and not too hot for us dogs.
Great pics - we loved the ones with you looking at the view - for some reason our mum likes these shots!!
We have tried playing with the birdies but we have to tell you they are no fun.
They fly up in the sky and even with jumping we can't reach them!
    It is just not fair.
    love and kisses

  10. Great post, Sierra!!! Love the story about N. Res. - didn't know the half of it, but knew it was shallow and how awful the lake bed looked during the 70s drought. What a shame. But thanks for showing us the pretty fall colors in W. Marin - so very pretty. Love big bird in tree and also your walk on the levy. I can't believe the white pelicans are there. Apparently, they are pretty rare birds, heheh! You ARE definitely getting bigger there, pup!
    Hugs xo

  14. If the birdies you saw are anything like the birdies we see in our neck of the woods, they really don't like to play much and they really don't want to play much in the spring when they have babies. In fact, they can get PURRty grouchy!

  15. What a nice walkie, Sierra! When you're a little bigger, I'm sure you can do the full 3 miles of trail (but can your human?! Mine couldn't!!).
