The weather was socked in the entire time, and lots of new snow. Love it!
Top of one of the ski runs...
There I go...DIG!
And, there I go...DIG DEEPER!
Up for air!
[Mom's feeling a little funny about sometimes putting 2 leashes on me...but I pull so hard or get spooked and jump around...that she isn't sure what I'd do. Saturday, cruisn' around...I did pull pretty hard after something...and guess what!!?!? One of the leash buckles SNAPPED in half! Eeeeek! Mom's gotta re-think my setup, any suggestions!?!?! Super tough leashes and connector ideas?]
Anyway...all safe and sound...and I am SOOOOOOOO TIRED from the weekend!!
Our hu-dad is super freaked out about our connections, but is not so worried about the leash. He makes sure it has a metal beefy snap (example here - http://www.strapworks.com/product_p/l1h.htm )
ReplyDeleteWhat is crazy for us is that sometimes we have THREE collars. We wear breakaway collars around the house just in case we get tangled in each others collars (a dog can choke in a regular collar - yikes!).
We wear limited slip collars when we are out walking and our hu-dad adds a prong collar if we are going to be somewhere we can get super excited. Weird, huh?
Sierra, we thank you for those great snow pics - we have to enjoy it vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteYikes, your leash broke??? Mom would be terrified if that happened to us. We use leather leashes with brass snaps but we guess it could happen to them too. Nothing wrong with using a double leash, better safe than sorry.
Woos, Phantom and Thunder
Looks like you had a pawesome time...and I bet mom and dad are pretty exhausted too! :)
ReplyDeleteMomma used to double leash me too. One harness, one collar. Best to be safe, right?

Your snow is so beautiful, Sierra Rose and we are so jealous! We had a leash clip fatigue once but it happened when mom was leashing us up to go for a walkie and we were still inside the house, thank doG! We're glad you're okay!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
I buy my leashes from an Amish shop that makes horse bridles - I have a coupler that I believe would hold 2 bears. If you'd like thier email/website just email me at rockycreekscotties at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteLynn
We only use Leather Leashes, they are the best!!! We do not envy your snow!! :))
ReplyDeleteSierra,
ReplyDeleteI think that you have the perfect name. You spend a lot of time in one of my fave places, the Sierra mountains. In particular, my absolute fave place is Sonora Pass, but it's not reachable right now.
I'd say that your mom is doing the right thing, double and triple-leashing you. I don't know about super strong leashes but perhaps you could drag a 20-30' long line while you play so that your mom has it as a 'safety net' in case your shorter leash fails. All of our dogs drag long lines for the first year of their lives while we're teaching them recalls and other skills needed for being off-leash dogs.
That's the only idea that I can come up with.
You look beautiful in the snow. What a puppy!
hello sierra rose its dennis the vizsla dog hay wow that is wun crazy luking snowmobile!!! i cud hav yoozd sumthing like that dooring my kampayn aginst sandy klaws!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time in the snow! Those are pawsome pictures!
ReplyDeleteYour leash snapped? That must be a scary moment for your mom. We just use the normal nylon type of leash.
Sam & June
I can't stand the 'choke collar' type of leash, although I know lots of people who do. What I did find was something called Easy-Walk (at the PetSmart) that works really really well with Jack (and he's a puller). It doesn't go around the throat, so I don't have to worry about that. It doesn't stop him from jumping, but it works wonderfully when we're out on our walks and he wants to pull
ReplyDeleteYou broke your leash? Oh my. The Duchess would faint if that happened to us :) Two leashes sounds like a good idea to me. Or maybe a braided one with more than one connector on the end.
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Emma Rose
We love your snow pictures - we can see how much you love playing in it!
ReplyDeleteWe love to play in the snow too but are glad it has gone for now.........
The snow will be great exercise for you - we expect you sleep just like a puppy!

Wow, sounds like you're mighty strong! Love the snow pictures! They certainly help me to feel cooler *mentally*. It's really hot over here right now.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you really enjoyed the snow! Mum says she would get you an all in one limited slip collar/leash. Nothing to break then.
ReplyDelete~lickies, Ludo
The snow you have looks such fun!...we want to come over and play in it with you...hehe
ReplyDeleteOn the leash thing, our humans used the Halti harness on Holly when she was younger.
http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/halti-harness.php
It has a Halti lead that you can get too, which clips either to the front and back or you can just use it as a longer lead on the back clip.
It really helped with the pulling, Holly is quite a strong girl.
I don't know if you get them there though but if you do they are definately worth a try. :-)
Maybe you need a bungee cord in the snow, Sierra!! LOL
ReplyDeleteThey're super strong and can stretch!
I'm glad y'all had a good time in the snow.
Great pics, too!
Raider
You are a girl after my heart Sierra, we'd have so much fun in the snow together :) Your Momma is very smart to do the double leash thing - good thinking!
