HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Time is flying already! Just below the Carson Spur, on Highway 88 and 5 miles below Kirkwood....we stopped New Year's Eve for a late day snowshoe at Silver Lake. I led the way. Then made a dash for it! The trail was well marked by snowmobile.
My snow bootie cuffs filled with snow very quickly...so we made a few snow removal pit stops. Onward to Silver Lake.
It was late afternoon and the sun was starting to sink away.
Views all around. Clouds flowing overhead....on their way to bringing big snows during the weekend.
There was a number of folks fishing through the frozen lake...you can see a dot of one in towards middle left in the photo below. We had originally thought to snowshoe onto the lake and perhaps across...but mom fell into a snow hole on the lake, and we quickly re-routed to higher ground and found these icicle trees! Mmmmmmm...you're tasty!
Yummers! I love you icicles!
The 'it's snowing' game with dad. Found a sweet snowed-in dock which is part of the Kit Carsen Lodge . A great spot for watching the sun sink away. Ahhh....I'll just stay.
Boy, icicles! Yum! Sure looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteIt is surely beautiful there but my bones are cold looking at these pictures. Sierra surely is a snow bunny and, as always, such a darling.
ReplyDeleteWeren't those icicle trees so pretty and sparkly? Bet they were quite refreshing to the tongue too:)
ReplyDeleteWe are so missing our snow this year, but we suppose there is still winter yet to come.
Hugs and Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
These pictures are stunning Sierra! Happy New Year to you and your humans too.
ReplyDeleteA lot of dogs in Scotland are now buying these snow shoes - this is the first year we have seen this here!

Ahhhhh... takes us back to our vacay - what fun fun fun to see Silver Lake from the Kit Carson Lodge end! We camped at the complete opposite end of that lake last summer! Looks cool all frozen over - except so NOT cool that your Mom fell through a hole - how frigidly awful for her... Cool icicle trees you found - we never saw any of those, but so glad to see you so appreciative of them hee hee! Love this post!

ReplyDeleteThat sounds like FUN! I think that I've been to Silver Lake before - I love that you remind me of long-ago adventures in your blog!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos. It's so stark yet so beautiful. But, you brighten up every photo, Sierra Rose.
First of all, let me just say how stylin' you are in those booties! :-) Second, it again looks like you had the best time in an amazing setting and you even found 'low cal' treats--How does it get any better?
ReplyDeleteI am shocked you will wear boots - I try to eat mine off immediately! Looks like a lot of fun.

Icicle Trees, I understand pre-date the dawn of doggies....I would love these for sure...trouble is that the temperature is so variable and ice turns to drips and melts away so quickly...such is the maritime condition..BTW...Happy new Year!
ReplyDeleteOooh! We LOVE eating icicles!!! Looks like a Most Excellent snow adventure! We haven't had snow for about a week now, and I'm hoping we'll get some more, soon, although we've got enough to do some serious snow zoomies (and Mom and Dad are happy with the firmer snow, as apparently ski racing in powder isn't as much fun as it could be...). Happy snow times!

ReplyDeleteOh boy I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who wears snow boots. Whew... you have to endure it too! My mom just bought snowshoes so she hopes she can do what you guys do... except falling in a hole. I gotta try that icicle thing. You look so cute catching them.

You are such a good girl to wear your snow boots! Your momma and dadda must be furry prouds of you. Momma loved the photo of you and the icicles the very mostest! How cool (literally) is that! Wishing you a New Year filled with fun and sun and love...
