Afternoon hike on the Loma Alta Fireroad

Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Saturday started with lots of backyard hang-time and much needed relaxing. A short afternoon drive found us here...the base of Big Rock Ridge.
Greeted by new wildflowers, we followed the Loma Alta Fireroad.
This year is not predicted to be a big wildflower season here, but it's early yet...
Patches of serpentine rich soil, as found on Ring Mountain Open Space, makes for a variety of interesting blooms.
California poppies.
Cooling off in the breezes.
San Pablo Bay in the distance.
Ahhhhh.

A fog band teased us.

Big Rock Ranch.

So glad we made this hike....there was more trail to explore, more uphill....

For another day :)
See you again soon pals.

  7. Wow, I'm amazed at the change in climate from last week. Was that snow last week? Now, mom's in shorts hiking? Those fireroads make great trails. Beautiful wide open spaces. I can tell Sierra was relishing that water---head leaned back and eyes closed :O)

  8. Thank's for taking me on this hike Sierra Rose. Since it will be a long time before I can get back into my summer home in the Sierra maybe I should go play in your backyard.
I once had a hiking companion that looked a lot like you.

  9. Ooooh! We are super humongously jealous! Our backyard is a combination of very mushy snow and muck. Our real hiking trails are equally mushy/muddy and our Dad is having neck issues (he broke his neck about 8 years ago, and even after surgery it bothers him from time-to-time) so even our backup (i.e. multi-use) trail is out of play (for now). So we've been walking a lot in the neighborhood, and saying hi to all the doggies we haven't seen all winter! ;-)

It looks like a beautiful hike!

  13. Beautiful hike, Sierra Rose!
My mom loves CA Poppies too, her favorites!

We're up in the Sierra Foothills visiting Grandma and Grandpa. Snow has been replaced with so much green and wild flowers! High peaks still have snow though! Very nice change after 3 1/2 months in the desert!

Can't believe my comment isn't here, even tho I wrote one - maybe I forgot to scroll to put in the "secret word!" At any rate, I loved the pics here - you sure know your wildflowers, Sierra! And you look so pretty against those gorgeous view backgrounds! Will have to check out that trail - it is just lovely! (And love that photo of you on the deck with that red ball!)

  20. That looks like a perfect way to spend a Saturday! AS far as beauty, there's no season prettier in TX than spring. There are wildflowers blooming all over the place and it makes for great driving (most of the blooms are on highway shoulders).

Are you going to visit the snow this weekend? This used to be our fave Sierra skiing time - late season when we could laze around in the sun and ski the corn snow!
